In Divorce Mediation the lawyer represents neither spouse. Instead the lawyer acts as a neutral mediator, aiding the parties in negotiating a fair agreement that settles all the terms of the divorce, the lawyer then drafts the settlement agreement. Divorce mediation tends to be less expensive than contested divorce. Divorce Mediation also tends to be much less acrimonious than the court battle that may occur during a contested divorce, and so is less emotionally draining than a contested divorce, for both spouses and their children.

 

Divorce Mediation can settle all the things at issue in a contested divorce: the division of property between the spouses, spousal maintenance (if any), the custody and visitation of children, and child support.
